The power of air

We think mostly little of the air pressure in our diving cylinders. Few know that the potential kinetic energy in an 80cu tank of 3000 psi is roughly the same as 3 1/2 hand grenades. However, how much power is in air when a hose on a compressor bursts? Enough to cause a stainless steel hose to be flailed around like a straw.

Below is a picture of the replacement stainless steel hose.

The hose broke at the fitting and spun around to the other side of the compressor, wrapping itself around another steel hose. After cutting through a high pressure PVC pipe.
